This Roman Polanski movie illustrates the darkness and gloom Shakespeare must have felt while writing this great masterpiece. Macbeth is one of my favorite Shakespearean plays, it's a story of a man who's desire to be King caused him to pay a high price for his greed. I really admire how Shakespeare was able to combine comedies and dark sides to the characters of Macbeth. I find Shakespeare a man of great imagination and skill and therefore cannot connect his works to other works of writers!
             I noticed that this movie is not a loose interpretation of Macbeth, in fact it shows all there is to Macbeth's world. I really felt like I journeyed into the gloomy, miserable, and nightmarish world of Macbeth. Jon Finch plays Macbeth as a troubled Macbeth, whose love for his wife caused him to have an ambition that is not attainable without causing some turbulence. Everything in this movie is ancient, from the castles to the landscape in the movie.
             Macbeth, one of the best generals of King Duncan, is again successful in battle, with his best friend Banquo; he journeys home to his castle. On his way, he meets three witches who greet him in a most strange and awkward way. Suggesting to Macbeth that he could some day become a King, the thought of becoming king surprises Macbeth. After a discussion with his wife Lady Macbeth (played by Francessca Annis) upon reaching his castle, his wife starts to suggest that he should try to assassinate the King and takeover the crown. Macbeth is suddenly torn between his loyalty to his king and his love for his wife. Eventually the assassination takes place and after the King's sons flee from the country, he becomes king. However, many things still stand in his way as he takes the crown.
