Turmoil is hitting airlines

The tragic event which occurred in New York City and the Pentagon on September 11, has begun to affect international airlines as well as our own. Large European airlines have been greatly affected by the fear, which has been instilled in many of its customers. The main profit for these airlines usually comes from their trans. Atlantic flights from America to Europe and back. Recently these flights have become non-existent.
As a result these large airlines overseas as with our own have had no choice but to lay-off employees and remove some planes from their inventory. These recent lay-offs have caused their stock to begin consistently dropping. For smaller, new companies such as "Ryanair" these events have been mostly beneficial to their company since they are an "upstart low-cost carrier" which mainly flies within their country.
In America, President Bush has granted aid to help our airlines get back on their feet. Over in Europe this type of aid has not been received yet. These larger & second-tier airlines are desperately hoping for some aid from their government.
This article is noteworthy & has international significance because it shows how much the global economy has been affected by a tragic terror on one country's homeland. America has always strived to help other countries succeed through aid and global trading. Now that America's security has been breached other countries are feeling the effects as well since most of their business was a result from our participation. Now that people are scared to fly even within America, it will take a while for us to begin to travel across the Atlantic again.
