There is a girl missing. She is a daughter and a friend, but to the public, she is a girl who had sex with a congressman. This image has been forced by the media before it was even the known truth. Congressman Condit became less of a suspect in Chandra Levy's disappearance and more as a politician who made bad decisions morally and politically. Is it anyone's business who sleeps with whom? Do we have the right to pass judgment on a man whose story has only been told by newspapers and television programs filtered and edited to make it appealing to the consumer. Just another way to use sex to sell a product or a true attempt by journalists to inform the public of the questionable activities of one of our representatives?
             Where is the story and what is the purpose? Did Condit ever have a chance in the bitter battle between right to privacy and the country's insatiable curiosity to know the dirty details? The answer is no. This is a man against an industry willing to manipulate stories and facts for the almighty dollar. There are some publications and news broadcasts who do not sell to the talk show demographic such as USA Today and CNN, but beyond that we find seedy stories in People magazine and the Enquirer right next to a story about Oprah dating Elvis or something else of equal pointlessness.
             The real problem has been forgotten, a girl is missing and a family is hurting, yet the media focuses on whether or not Condit slept with four or five flight attendants. Something tells me the priorities are out of whack and it's hard to place blame. Is it the so-called journalist asking Condit's second grade girlfriend if he was faithful or is it the people who care more about someone's sex-life who is neither a personal acquaintance? Condit would not be in the headlines if he and Levy were friends and it is the media that latched on, rather distastefully, to a matter that was no one&apo
