that Fitzgerald created for the Great Gatsby, the wealthy are careless and hide
Gatsby was a very wealthy man, who lived in a huge house on West
Egg, Long Island. He bought this house here because across the bay he could
see his long love Daisy's house. His life was devoted to fulfilling a romantic
dream from the past. His dream is corrupt because of his belief in
materialism. Gatsby throws huge parties every night, just hoping that his old
love Daisy will stroll into one of them some day. Gatsby is careless because he
doesn't realize that Daisy loves Tom, her husband, and is happy because she
has lot's of money. Gatsby was a hopeless romantic that was destroyed by his
illusions of getting Daisy and living happily ever after.
Tom and Daisy are married, they fight a lot, cheat on each other, are
very rich and live on East Egg. Tom and Daisy use there money to get out of
everything. On their honeymoon Tom cheated on Daisy, that is just pathetic.
They've had to move twice because of people finding out that Tom has been
cheating on Daisy. The most careless thing they've done happens at the end of
the book when Daisy runs over this lady and drives off. It's a good thing they
had money because otherwise they never would've gotten out of that. They
left the country as fast as possible. If that's not an example of rich people
being careless and hiding behind their money I don't know what is.
The last upper class, rich person in the book is a lady named Jordan she
was friends with Daisy and a professional golfer. She cheated her way threw
everything. All together she was just careless, one time she told Nick, a man
in the book, that other people need to watch out for her on the roadway and
that it won't be her fault if she gets in an accident. Also we observed her
