Life Adjustments

When our familiar ways of life change because of uncontrollable situations, we begin to view the world differently. In the past year I have changed a lot emotionally and realized what's truly important in my life. I am much more confident now than ever before and I am so happy. These positive changes were triggered by the people who I care about most, my family, my boyfriend, and my friends. Since everything was going for me I began to take what I had for granted, until now.
About six months ago, my dad found out that he would be working overseas for about a year. At first my family and I were understanding and agreeable with the situation. But when my dad told us that he would be working in a small country located near Russia, Tajikastan, my mom almost hit the wall. He told us that the government was going to be building a U.S. embassy and his company was to be heading the electrical construction. Even though my dad doesn't do much of the hands on electrical work, he had to manage and overlook the project. My mom began to worry that Tajikastan wasn't a safe place to be considering the war going on Asia. My dad reassured us that he would be protected at all times. This news was hard to handle all at once. Because my dad had never worked farther than New York, I was used to having him around. Although my family and I didn't do many family things together and my dad and I didn't have a close relationship, I was extremely upset that he was leaving.
In the weeks leading up to his departure, I started to mentally prepare myself. I knew that I would have to be home more often to keep my mom company because I knew she was going to be an emotional wreck. I also knew that I would have to take on more responsibilities to help my family out. Sometimes during the week, my family and I would go out for dinner and do errands. This gave me more time to see my dad, since he was always working late.
