1. In the first chapter of The Pearl Kino tells about the music he hears in his head like "The Song of the Family". In their brush house in a hanging box lies his baby Coyotito and a scorpion slowly moved towards him, while in Kino's head "The Song of Evil" plays loudly. Then the scorpion fell on Coyotito and stung him. Then Kino's wife Juana tried to save him by sucking out the poison. Soon the whole village knew about him being stung. Then when they took the baby to the doctor, he wouldn't treat him because of their race and because he knew they were poor.
1. The first main character is Kino who cares about his family and is a nice person in character. Kino's goal in the story is to sell the pearl he finds while diving and support his family. Kino tries to sell it so he can put his son in school, get legally married to his wife, and so forth, but is doesn't turn out the way he wants.
2. The next main character is Juana who is Kino's wife. Juana cares a lot about her husband and shows it by trying to get rid of the pearl. She also care a lot about her son Coyotito, she shows it when she sucks the poison out of him and by always caring for him. Juana is mainly a character who is nice and follows and supports her husband.
