Lord of the flies

             In the movie, the pilot survives the plane crash and has to be taken care of by Simon. The reason that I believe that the director chose to do this was because it was easier to have the pilot there from the beginning of the book, than to make him fall out of the sky from the war in the background (which he also omitted). This was not a necessary change, but did give the movie an interesting twist. All in all, I would say that this was a bad move by the author because he reduced Simons role to a baby sitter. And not the Prophetic discoverer of the true nature of the beast.
             One of the books main characters Piggy, was a sniveling cry baby thought the entire movie. In the novel, he is an intelligent and integral part of the book, he acts almost like a parental figure in the novel. In the book, at the time of his death I felt sympathy. In the movie at the time of his death I felt joy. The whole Piggy baby twist was definitely not a pleasing variation from the novel.
             Jack and his hunters started off as a part of the group in the movie. As oppose to being a very select few whose voices have not changed and are in the choir. The director did a good job with taking them out of the choir, this didn't really add to their personality as blood thirsty savages. The novel started them off by making them seem like wimps in the beginning, and no matter how much I try to get it out of my mind I always saw Jack running with that spear singing a merry tune. Thus this was a good change for the director to make. It also made the separation into two groups seem that much more dramatic and unexpected. With the novel, it is no surprise who will split up into the other group with Jack.
