             Lord of the Flies is a novel written by William Golding. A plane full of English boys escaped Britain and their plane was shot down into a tropical island. As they are all marooned, the boys establish rules which are followed in the beginning but as they evolve on the island, all of their defects start to
             show and that leads to the separation of the group. They can no longer relate to what is civil and what is human. This essay will explain the defects of Ralph, Piggy and Jack, and how they contributed to the slide from civilization.
             Ralph is the chosen leader. He likes things to be in order and imposes rules so all of the boys can survive and avoid conflicts. Ralph has one objective, which to get off of the island. He has the idea of maintaining a signal fire. To keep the fire going he appoints Samneric to watch over it. He does not like it when Jack disregards the rules and orders Samneric to hunt instead of watching over the signal fire. Ralph contributed to the slide from civilization because he is the one child that has the mind of an adult and he acted like an adult. Which is why the boys would have left him. All that they
             wanted to do was have fun and Ralph did not allow fun and games.
             Jack is the leader of the hunters, who are mostly choir boys. He despises the fact that Ralph is the leader and that he is establishing rules for all of the children. Jack seems believe that his hunters should not follow the rules and that they should live and hunt on the island for fun. He does not realize that he is a substantial contributor in the boys¡ slide from civilization. He desensitizes most of the children from their mission which is to try to be rescued.
