Each new and different stage in a child's life represents a fundamental shift in how a child thinks and understands the world around him. A child who is exposed to ample and varied opportunities for exploration is more apted to progress quicker than a child who has limited environmental opportunities. Even though we all go through the same stages, there is an individual variation in the rate of cognitive development.
Joyce and Jay's son, Jayson, is in the sensorimatic stage since he is only 9 months old. It doesn't matter that the parents are older than most parents with a one month child. Anyone at any age can raise a well rounded and emotionally strong child if they use the proper tools.
The first and most vitally important factor is to give your child the right amounts of nutrients . If a child doesn't get the nutrition he needs, his body won't be able to function and perform at it's best. The better the food and nutrition a child receives, the better he will be able to learn about life around him.
Once you have your child on the proper diet, there are plenty of other ways to help enhance his cognitive development. First, by talking to him and having conversations with him will keep his mind rolling. You can explain to him what you are doing throughout the day, as he watches you doing things. Always be sure to stop and let him talk too, and listen to what he is trying to tell you. Be sure you show interest in what he is doing and saying to you. Knowing that you care enough to stop what you were doing to listen to him, will encourage your child even more.
It is also important to introduce your child to different activities and environments. For example, taking him to the playground, Gymboree classes, or even storytime at the library. There will be plenty of things for him to explore on his own and other children to interact with along side of him.
