Reunion

             The short narrative story entitled "Reunion," is a story about a young man who encounters his father for the last time. Through the author's blend of humor, pathos, and grotesque in the story, his tone is more clearly presented.
             Meeting your father for the first time in three years can be scary and exciting, but in "Reunion", it is nothing more than a disappointment and a reminder of old times. The author's tone throughout the story is mixed. His humor manifests to the reader that he doesn't expect any more out of his father. He figures that it is the way his father will always be - obnoxious. "Kellner", "Buon giorno", and "Vada all inferno", are all of examples of how his father tried to be humorous and insulting everywhere they went. This humor shows how the author did not believe that his visit was a total wasted.
             Pathos or the author's sadness presented in the story also show his tone. There are several pathos in the narrative. When the boy has to speak to his secretary and not his father and when the only places his father would take his is bars are both examples of this. These pathos reveal his real tone, and show the reader how dissatisfied he his with his father, and how much of a waste this trip was.
             The strongest clue to his tone, is the grotesque he uses in his story. All of the cussing, disrespect, and ignoring who his son really is are all examples of how the author really feels towards his father. The boy can have no respect for this father when he has none for him. His father won't even let him talk. This shows the reader how the young boy can have the courage not to see his father again, and the reader can understand his choice.
