Obsidian Butterfly

The book Obsidian Butterfly, written by Laurell K. Hamilton, was based on a world where all creatures existed. Werewolves, vampires, shapeshifters, witches, warlocks, and anything else your imagination could come up with was there. All these creatures existed in the modern world, though only few knew of them. Those few were the police, the government, and the special "bounty hunters"to keep humans as the dominate race on earth. Anita Blake was a woman bounty hunter. She was special because she had powers. She could see spirits and predict certain things in the future.

Throughout this novel, which is one of many, Anita was looking for a murderer, who she believed was not human. The victims were left for dead in their own homes. They started attaking the nurses and the doctors. Anita uncovers an evil power possesing the undead. She and her partner Edward, track the power back to a warlock. He had invented a large lizard-like creature. This was the monster who had taken all the lives in such a gruesome fashion. The warlock attempts to make Anita his greatest sacrifice when their backups, Olaf and Bernardo, come in and overtake the warlock. In the end the warlock was killed and everything went back to normal. Anita healed back up from all the beatings she took from that case and went on to the next.
