This is the main theme of the story. In this story, the villagers don¡¯t even know the necessity and origin of the tradition fully. In real life, some people, too, do not even know the purpose of some traditions. In the result of this, the majority of people can interpret the understanding of the tradition wrongly and the tradition can be changed completely different - It may become immortal from a social point of view.
             He also makes comment on our different views towards traditions. In ¡°The Lottery¡±, young people start to realize that the tradition is immortal, but Old Man Warner thinks the lottery is essential to have a successful harvest.
