Lesson Plan-Visual Storytelling (Schematic Stage)
Goal: Children will be able to experience visual storytelling with classmates.
Children will be able to understand how everyone sees a story differently.
Objective: Will allow children to be able to understand others.
Will allow children to understand the concept of visual storytelling.
10 min Introduction: Explain to children that we will be learning about visual story telling, and explain how important it is. Have each child bring in something that is very special to them. Go around the circle and let each child explain why it is so important.
10 min Show children a picture book.
30 min Divide the children into groups. Give each group a felt board, with different cut out pieces. Have each group make up their own visual story and the present to the class.
20 min Visual Storytelling game-the whole class sits in a circle. One big felt board is used. Children will have a chance to go up and tell their own part of the story. The teach writes it all down, and at the end she reads it to them, and acts it out on the felt board.
20 min Have children draw their favorite fairy tale.
Evaluation: The children really had fun with this! They were happy that they got to pick their favorite fairy tales to draw. The picture book was interesting to them because they really never saw one of those before, so they enjoyed it. We made up our own story of what we thought was going on. They liked talking about their show and tell as well. They also really liked the felt boards and being able to make up their own stories.
