Desperate Housewives: Secret Stereotypes Revealed
             I will admit it; I am addicted to this new prime time soap called 'Desperate Housewives'. It started airing four weeks ago and I am hooked! This irrational stereotyped view of women seems to have real housewives coming out of the closet. It seems that these stereotypes are true of many women.
             Full of mystery, drama, comedy, manipulation, sex and gossip 'Desperate Housewives' has earned its place on television. Based on the life of the stereotypical suburban neighborhood, these characters are all too familiar with the people next door. So real that they have been appearing on talk shows speaking about how closely they can relate to the characters.
             A few weeks ago Oprah had the cast of Desperate Housewives on and they ended up discussing this very issue. Some of the women in the audience revealed there secrets about their role of the housewife. Some had even stated that they thought the character had been written especially for them or for someone they know.
             One of the relations the women had was to the character Lynette Scavo. On the show Lynette plays a married woman with four kids under the age of six. Before having children Lynette had a career in business management. She was organized, in control and used to wake up and take a shower in the morning. Now Lynette finds her self in a position trying to maintain her sanity. Her character relates all too closely with other sacrifices women have made in order to raise a family.
             Her stereotype is what gives her character likeability. The stresses that come with raising children can at times be unbearable. Not to mention giving up a career. Having a career is something that women have fought so hard at attaining. The way in which Lynette deals with the every day hardships is what women across America are embracing.
