             The debate over the merits of Capital Punishment has endured for years. Capital Punishment, the legal infliction of the death penalty, is meant to deter murder. Criminals who have committed crimes so heinous that the state determines the only way to deal with them is death, suffer execution. Since it's institution, Americans have argued about the death Penalty (Hays, 1990). Many feel that it does not obey the laws of this land and it is not a decent form of punishment. To this day, many Americans still do not agree on Capital Punishment.
             Lethal injections are commonly used to execute criminals on death row. James A. McCafferty (1972) indicates the following:
             "The variety of ways in which men have put one another to death under the law is appalling. As you will see on page 4, the table indicates that 35 states use lethal injection, 10 use the electric chair, 4 use the gas chamber, 3 execute by hanging, 2 still use firing squads and 13 states do not use the death penalty at all" (p. 43).
             The following table shows the status of Capital Punishment in the United States. Regardless of what is used, does televising Capital Punishment deter crime? This has been an issue on and off for several years and Americans have been fortunate it has not been allowed.
