Flying over a massive volcano, the scent of ash and inferno from eruptions over thousands of years prior, strikes me as scorching and invigorating. In the grandest part of Maui, the helicopter suspends us, towering in the heavens over one of the most astounding sites throughout the entire utopia of Hawaii. Slicing and severing through the warm moist air, the blades of the immaculate chopper implode my ears, causing an entire dimension of sound, springing and bouncing about the cabin. In awe and bewilderment, the astonishing structure of the volcano and its cosmic history, are beyond grasp and purely strike me as a greater force of life and beauty than I have seen ever before. What is more gratifying of the incidence, the sweet ginger of the tropical island mixed with a smoldering ash induces an extraordinary savor and tang. A colossal auburn and misty gray, the rising mountain sits under a haze of bulbous ivory clouds, hovering their way towards the vast azure sea, and beyond. Each crevice, great and petite, marks a piece of the volcano's endless identity. Sliding and curving, every twist and crook slithers to the center, a dormant crimson bomb, bursting with vigor. It waits to explode and wreak a fierce sweltering blaze upon the island. This sense of prominence and enormity; the magnitude beyond magnitude of such a godly wonder of the world, provokes anxiety and a sentiment of tranquility at the same time. The slow dusk, adding to the inexplicable splendor, settles upon the cobalt sky as the dull golden sun sinks below the horizon painting the south side of Hawaii's pride a warm magenta.
