Hello everyone, thank you for attending this rally for women. I am the Wife of Bath. I am very honored to have been chosen to speak at this much needed rally. In today's rally, my main points will be how women are not treated equally and should have autonomy over men.
Many men take women for granted. Like in my Canterbury Tale, when the woman was taken advantage of by the Knight while he rode home from the river. She is one of the three women who taught him a lesson. The Knight got what he deserved when the Queen ordered him to death for raping the woman in the woods. The penalty for what he had done was death. But I believe the way the Queen handled the situation was very fair. She told him that in order to stay alive he had a year and one day to figure out simply what women wanted. And that task alone scared him very much. The Queen was the second out of the three influences on the Knight. He had no idea how to go about finding out what a woman truly wanted or needed. He received many answers such as, wealth, treasure, honor, jollity, pleasure, and gorgeous clothes. Some even said fun in bed or even to be re married or widowed. He tried to put them all together. But he didn't know where he was going with it. At the end of the Knight's search, he finally had to approach the Queen with his final answer. He told her that women wanted, "the self-same sovereignty over her husband as over he lover, and master him, he must not be above her." The third out of the three people that influenced him was his old wife. She taught him that beauty lies on the inside as well as the out side. She claimed she saved his life. And that she did.
That story proves that men can be controlled and tamed, as we want them. Not all are evil. But it shows that women have to threaten men, maybe even with their lives, like in the Knight's case the Queen ordered him to listen to what women really want. Som
