In the book "Bless Me, Ultima" by Rudolfo Anaya, the main character's two families are the exact opposite of each other. They are from different areas, they both have different ideas for how he should live his life, and they act a lot different.
The Marez and Luna families are from two different areas of New Mexico. The Marez family is from the wild llano (plains), and they are cowboys who live their lives on split-second decisions they make. Tony has Marez blood in him, which makes him do things that are irrational at times. But other times these actions, which he does can save his life. On the other hand, the Luna's are from Puerto de Luna, a farming community, and came from a priest. The Luna blood in him makes him think very religiously, and he does not know exactly what to believe about religion, but he does know that at communion everything will be straightened out. Tony's families live in completely different places from one another.
The two families also have different views on how Tony should live his life. The Marez family wants him to join their wild cowboy family on the Llano and be wild. Tony thinks that this could be interesting, but his older brothers did this too. Tony thinks those men are great, but he also thinks that they are too selfish to help other people do what they want to do as well. In the other family, the Luna's want Tony to become a Priest. They want him to lead people in the faith that they all have in there hearts; they want the Luna priest to live again. Tony thinks this is the right thing to do so he can honor his mother, which he badly wants to do. And his mother has had him grow up very religious thus far in his life. Tony's family's dreams for him are completely different from each other.
The two families act differently from each other as well. The Marez family is very loud, and their actions are very noticeable to other people. Like when Tony and his friends were holding the peeing contes...
