The American Dream
The American Dream changes if you ask different American citizens.
Some will tell you it's the ideal family with money, love, and goals; like the
Brady Bunch. Other Americans, such as immigrants, just want a life free of
dictatorship. Though we march to the music of our time, our mission is
timeless. Too many the American Dreams deal with money, family, and
Several items of the American Dream have to do with rewards found
in everyday life. People want to be able to buy a car, a house, and groceries.
People want to be able to afford the necessities and the little extras that make
life fun such as movies, candy, and sports. People in America want to be
able to have a family and support it.
Freedom is another issue of dealt with in the average American
dream. In the Declaration of Independence we Americans had a dream. Our
forefathers realized how necessary it was to have the freedom to do what
they believed was right. Jefferson wrote "and finally we do not assert and
declare these colonies as free and independent states." Others knew we
needed freedom as well. Paine said "Heaven knows why to put a proper
price upon its goods; and what would be strange indeed, is so an article as
freedom should not be highly rated. About now all Americans are wondering
if the American dream of yesterday will differ from that of tomorrow. Paine
put it best when he declared "These are the times that try mens souls".
Each generation of American's must define what it means to be an
American. And with the World Trade Center incident we should really keep
