Gun Control is an effort to stop the rise in violent
crime, by strengthening laws on the ownership of
firearms. Gun Control laws aim to reduce the criminal
use of guns as much as possible without interfering
There are two major arguments on Gun Control. They
are the Anti-Gun argument and the Pro-Gun advocates
Firstly, according to the Anti-Gun advocates illegal
guns are the major causes of violent crimes in the
United States. Should the United States Postal
employee workers have guns? Right now the currents
death toll is 41 and 16 wounded. What is wrong with
the United States Postal Service today? What drives
people to such anger and rage that they will walk in
and start shooting people? If it was a large
corporation, such as, UPS, Microsoft or K-Mart that
has over 41 dead employees in over 12 years. You can
be sure that the government would be interrogating
their management's practices to find out why these
Secondly, according to the Pro-Gun advocate,
opponents of Gun Control flatly reject the
propositions that stricter Gun Control laws would
reduce crime. They argue that many law-abiding
citizens use guns to defend themselves against
criminals. Gun Control laws, such as the Brady Law,
which went in effect in 1994, has a five day waiting
period to allow enforcement officials to make sure the
purchaser is qualified to own a hand gun. The law
also established a $200.00 federal firearm license,
and a $90.00 renewal fee. Also the more guns with
which our society equips itself, the greater the
likelihood for accidents or violent acts involving
firearms will happen. Each year, 1,200 people are
killed in accidents involving handguns, and a handgun
injures someone every two and a half minutes. More
than 200,000 privately owned handguns are stolen
