Animal testing...is it necessary? YES. I am here today to talk to you
about the recent discoveries scientists and doctors have uncovered
using this contriversial method of research. Many say that these tests
are wrong, that they are not needed. I disagree. We need this type of
research to expand our mindset on finding the cures and medicines
used to heal millions of diseases worldwide. Not only for humans, but
Dr.Carl Cohen, a professor at the University of Michigan
Medical School defines RIGHTS as something that one can only
have if they have a sense of morality, can accept the rules of
society, and recognize the rights of others. Therefore, when
animal rights activists, such as PET@People for the Ethical
Treatment of Animals say that animal research denies an animal of
it's right.....they have nothing to prove that. According to Cohen,
animals do not/can not have rights because they do not understand
August 2,1987-a writer for The Washington Times said "People
involved in the animal rights movement consider the life of a
cat, dog, chicken or pig to be equal to the life of a human. It just shows
how far some of us have fallen in respect for human life." In saying
this, he is talking about the comparison many activists have made
between animals and humans. He used this question as a follow up:
Does a lion have the right to eat a baby zebra?,Does a baby zebra
have the right to be eaten? In this statement he has implied that
saying animals and humans should be treated like equals does not
make sense. If it did make sense the lion would have no right to eat
the zebra...even if it kept him alive.
ARA(Animal rights' activists) spend so much time trying to fight
against the researchers, they fail to realize how much they have
helped our society. By using animals in research, scientists have
saved millions up on millions of people and animals. Without
