and new and widespread encryption measures being utilized, law moves far too slowly. There's the idea of non-use in general, starving out the producers by taking away their needed attention. This is just as unlikely, because many more companies and basic services are moving towards being wired. The Internet is truly being integrated with everything. How can mom and dad control what they would like to control? They can turn to shame.
             Apparently, relying on shame as a value is not a problem for many people. Most of the discussions I had centered on how it seemed unfair to promulgate your own ideological beliefs right at a moment when so many new beliefs and ideas were available to both parents and children. Responses to my hypothetical varied from people who were sure they knew what was right, to people who were just sure that other people were wrong. Shame was a wonderful tool, especially if you were assured that you were right. Of course others should be ashamed of themselves. If they didn't, they'd do anything. It was as though there were two different discussions going on simultaneously, one that reminded me of a similar attitude about racis
