File sharing is now part of everyday life for the internet generation. The majority of this file sharing is illegal, but it still occurs everyday nonstop. Napster and other programs like it are inevitable because the internet provides a worldwide link between people and the files that they desire to share with others.
The internet was a great invention to share information around the world quickly and easily. Somehow, people managed to distort it to a massive file-sharing program. The bulk of what today's teens do online is download songs and programs off the internet. Such programs as Napster make it easier for the "non-computer geek" to have access to all of these songs. Downloading songs and programs used to be for the highly informed "hackers." Now in the internet generation, people download as much stuff as they can. Everyday more and more files are uploaded and downloaded using the internet.
Napster has created a completely new breed of internet users. These people are only out to get programs and songs for free. Who can blame them? When it is free and they are not getting in any amount of trouble, why not? The creators of the songs and programs being downloaded are not too happy about people getting their property for free illegally. The people that put these items on the internet for sharing believe that if they purchased the product, then they have the right to do what they wish with it. If they choose to share it with others, then why not? The law may try to stop the sharing of these programs and songs but it just is not going to work. In general, there are other ways of file sharing that cannot be shutdown.
