More simply, biotechnology applies scientific knowledge to create or enhance biological organism that could not have been made without help. Biotechnology is based on the discovery by James Watson and Francis Crick in 1953 of the structure of DNA [2]. Once the secrets of DNA were unlocked, the endless possibilities of biotechnology began.
It is estimated that farmers are expected to plant 2 million to 4 million acres with genetically engineered crops next year [3]. Genetic engineering is a technological process for undertaking activities which do not, and can not occur in nature [4]. Genetic engineering has provided numerous ways to increase crop yields.
