In charlotte the crime rate is the lowest it has been in the past thirty years. The homicide rate have also recently dramatically decreased. The reason for the decrease in homicide cases could be a result of capital punishment. The death penalty is a big issue in the world today. It is important to support the government in its decisions to enforce capital punishment
             Every one has heard of a case where a defendant was put to death because of what a group of people assumed one did. For instance take the bombing Oklahoma City; a man by the name Timothy McVeigh was given the death penalty. He was accused of killing 168 people and wounding 600 more, and there were a lot of people that were affected by the act of utter terrorism. McVeigh knew as he was making he bomb and putting in place to blow up the government building that if he was caught what he woud be facing the death penalty. After he was suspected of being the terrorist he along with allot of other people knew that he had been caught. He went through a fair and just trial, it took several years to finish the process but he has now been proven guilty and been put to death.
             The death penalty has been a form of punishment sense Eighteenth Century B.C. in Babylon under the code of King Hammaurabi. In America the first state to enforce the death penalty was Pennsylvania in the Eighteenth Century A.D. In the early Nineteenth Century the death penalty was moved out of the public eye in many states, or completely abolished in other states. In the Twentieth Century all but one state were enforcing capital punishment, and there was new ways of carrying out the punishment such as "The Gas Chamber." In the 1940's here were 1,289 executions and only 191 from 1960 to 1976.
