The task that we have chosen for our QFM project is to reduce the amount of wasted bagels by giving them to homeless people through homeless shelters and to help the homeless community in whatever way we can
             The New York Bagel Shop located on 34 Street South throws away all excess bagels at the end of each day. Several times, we have gotten bags of bagels that would have been thrown out otherwise. These bagels are baked fresh each morning, and are still fresh at the time that they throw them out. Between 25-50lbs of bagels are discarded each day. So we had a talk with the Director of Services at YWCA (Joyce Pritchett) and she was kind enough to allow us and cooperate with us to provide YWCA with the excess bagels from the Bagel Shop. The YWCA is located in Downtown St.Petersburg and the main goal of this institution is to help troubled teens and people who are homeless with their different kinds of programs and facilities and help them make a better person out of themselves and a better life for them to live in.
             We had gained permission from the New York Bagel Shop to take their excess bagels, and deliver them to the Pinellas County YWCA emergency shelter. Depending on demand and the number of people available there at that particular time we delivered the bagels, and wrap the bagels individually if necessary. Delivery included working at the YWCA shelter, feeding the homeless with the bagels that we actually brought, and help them with any other important work in the facility during the time that we are there. The YWCA had told us that our bagels will be accepted, and that we can help them serve food. They were unclear if the bagels could be served immediately upon delivery but then it was a nice way to help the community with whatever we could and the people at YWCA were very supportive and very thankful.
