             A Twisted Love Story, or A Lovely Twisted Story?
             In Ayn Rand's, tribute to Frank Lloyd Wright, The Fountainhead, they plot is twisted and complex. One key element that stands out and adds to the intricacy of the story line is the twisted yet mutual feelings of affection and hate shared by Roark and Dominique. Roark who has incredible architectural design skills was in love with, Dominique, who has a selfish demanding mentality. Their love may have not been strong in all aspects, but at times it was apparent, although Dominique is constantly trying to defeat Roark. After many attempts Dominique unsuccessfully routs Roark, unlike her past relationships where she played an extremely manipulative role. Why in her relationship with Roark, which was unlike any other, was she unsuccessful in defeating him?
             There are many reasons that Dominique had tried to defeat Roark. From a feminist perspective, Dominique may have been fed up with all the maltreatment of women of the time, and Roark could have been the scapegoat for all the persecution that Dominique had gone through. This exacerbated the hate she had for him. And the simple hatred that Dominique felt may cause her to attempt to defeat Roark. "Roark? You know, the guy Dominique Francon can not stand the guts of" (285). Another reason that Dominique may have attempted to defeat Roark is the simple feeling of inferiority. It may be possible that Dominique was jealous of Roark and his estranged thinking manner or his innately skillful ways. Feelings of jealousy acted as a motive for achieving superiority over Roark. Another reason why Dominique may have been unsuccessful in her attempts to subdue Roark was because she was being selfish, mainly acting on her knowledge of Roark's talent.
