I think that the puritan idea of industriousness is very important to us today because if no one worked hard America would be full of a bunch lazy slackers, only doing enough to get by or get the job done. Even if only a selected group of people practice industriousness they are setting a good example for other people to work off of.
Another Puritan idea that I think is important to us now is public education. If no one had public education we would all be basically stupid. And if there was no public education someone would have to learn by someone already educated, and what about the people who never get educated?? The idea of setting a good example is also an important Puritan belief, still important today, because setting a good example is always good. It helps others to dress or behave properly, I guess... Also, temperance is good in some ways but also not, I feel that putting a limit on alcohol intake and lying is a good idea, but no dancing just isn't. Limits on alcohol makes sure people don't make a fool of themselves, say stuff they don't want to, and makes sure people stay focused. I agree with the whole "no lying" thing whole-heartily because lying is just plain wrong, and it really just isn't necessary, there really is no need to ever be dishonest.
I don't think I would ever be able to live the way they did because for one thing, I show no signs of bravery at all. I would never leave where I have lived my whole life just because I didn't agree with their beliefs. And I would never go there during the winter seasons. I mean, honestly, did they think that it was going to be all warm and sunny and stuff when they arrive. I feel that it was there fa
