             To mature as man Charles did accomplish throughout his years in exile along with many other great advancements for himself and his loyal royalist following. For the first months of Charles exile he was poor and had many people around him looking to him for help. From the years 1652 to 1655 Charles and his Royalist spent their time in France. Charles and his people during time of exile did not accomplish much. For most of these years Charles main concerns were for quarters and food. At certain points his followers were unable to keep to his diet and was "reduced to taking his meals in taverns." The start of Charles exile was not the greatest, lack of support from England provided for hard times. To increase the problems in Charles life this occurred during "December of 1653, Oliver Cromwell became Lord Protector of England." This added unwanted anger and frustration in the mind of Charles. Charles began to see his throne somewhat threatened but began to realize that he needed to start pushing his cause and get back home to where he belonged.
