It was a time of conservatism, and a time of social change. From the world of fashion to the world to politics, materialistic forms clashed together to produce the most explosive decade of the century. Among these materialistic forms was fashion. Fashion has always made a great impact on social change, and especially during this period. Part of the fashion change occurred on college campuses, through sports into a more youthful look, and especially the dress of females. Females changed their fashion from evening dress, which displayed more of the female figure, to the tube dress. Fashion was becoming more of a youthful look, which fit the look for the nightclub's and speakeasies of this time.
Much credit to the social change has to go to cars. The coming of cars into society made life in the city much more accessible. Therefore, speakeasies and restaurants could get more business. Cars also impacted fashion in a way. For example the car referred to as "The Ghost" was more popular then the McKlaren F-1 is today.
Sports such as baseball, and football made a huge impact on social change. Not so much as the sport but the heroes in the game impacted fashion. Heroes such as Red Grange and Charles Lindbergh inspired fashion crazes like driving jackets.
The coming of the radio created a huge and successful business in society. From 1919, into the new decade radio became home entertainment, and a tool for advertising. Much success of the jazz craze had to have been because of the radio. Near the end of the decade there were 618 stations in business. Also From 1920 to 1929 radio sales went from less then 2 million to 600 million.
