An example of characterization is found on page ninety-nine. It says, "She glared at him, insolently, dark eyes a glitter with something that looked very much like hate. Harriet Somers. She had always been a nut-case. Pretty but bananas. Hyperactive was what they called it nowadays. Hyper-raving-potty if you asked him." This is an example of the element of what other think about her.
             An example of internal conflict is found on page ninety-seven. It says, "For a moment Fran wanted to scream as well. She forced herself to keep calm: They were only little boys. They came swarming over the top, half a dozen in all." In this conflict Fran is in a disagreement with herself about the little boys attacking her. She is trying not to be scared and keep herself calm.
             An example to prove the definition of paroxysm which reads, " 'Stupid!' Harry punched a vicious fist at the television, making the screen go blank and almost toppling the set onto the floor. 'Stupid, stupid!'" can he found on page seventy-nine. This quote shows that Harry had a sudden and violent outburst when she got mad about the news program on TV.
             An example of external conflict is found on page eighty. It says, " 'It's all right,' said Fran. 'you can go back to your film.' Harry pouted. 'I don't want to go back to the film. It's too late. I've missed all the best parts. Anyway, I've seen it. What do I want to see it again for? I've got better things to do than waste my time watching junk like that!'" This conflict is between Fran and Harry and occurred when Fran told Harry she can turn the channel back to her movie. Harry is mad because she missed all the good parts already so there is no point in turning it back.
