Communication Between the Sexs

             Communication between the sexes is an age old problem that has been construed over
             the years to be the result of many factors. I believe the central problem between male and
             female communication is that men are direct and to the point, while women like to tell a
             story which is typically more illustrative and emotional. Therefore, it may be that men
             tend to turn a deaf ear to what women have to say because it seems men often lose
             interest due to the story-telling approach women utilize while communicating. Let me
             point out that this is only my opinion and depending on who you ask or what you read,
             you may find that there are many other opinions.
             In the essay "His Talk, Her Talk," Joyce Maynard points out that suggesting that there
             are differences between the sexes other than anatomy may be wrong or politically
             incorrect, but, in fact, differences do exist. It's hard to believe that there is no such thing
             as women's talk and men's talk. Neither sex knows what goes on in each other's
             conversations. Men's conversations are generally short and to the point where as women's
             conversations are intimate and full of emotion. Maynard claims that the sexes talk about
             the same eternal conflicts, its just that their styles are different. When communicating,
             men get to the point quickly and women pay more attention to details. Neither of the sex's
             ways of communicating are better, they are simply different.
             In the essay, "Man to Man, Woman to Woman," Mark A. Sherman and Adelaide Haas
             assert that men and women typically choose different topics for discussion. There is no
             language distinction within each gender or verbal absolutes to distinguish between the
             sexes, but there is a general difference in the way men and women converse, most notably,
