In the article, "Dress As Success" written by Wendy Chapkis, she describes how the way a person dresses reflects who they are, and the respect that they will receive. Chapkis describes an episode where she wears a wig, not only to hide her true self, but also to show people a new self, hoping to receive respect. In the end she decided to take it off, because she could not stand trying to be somebody she was not, as well as the way people looked at her. I would recommend this essay to you as a professor, because it sets high standards for the reader, emotionally, and socially. It will not only challenge them to be better people, but to respect other people for not what they are, but who they are.
             The main idea in this essay is not so clearly stated. When I thought that she was describing how a person is on the inside reflects how she dresses on the outside, and that is the respect that they will receive, I realized that there was another main idea; " Punks are rejecting the class position but you have to be there before you can reject it." (Chapkis, 211) I honestly believe that she could have done a better job in stating her main idea. If the main idea was stated clearly, I am pretty sure I would not have gotten confused on the main idea, if she would have clearly stated it.
             I believe that she organizes her arguments fairly well, at first she states the social standards of the biker group for women, " You aren't to wear too much make-up or anything like that, and you wear jeans or trousers because you are on the bike so much." Previously she said, " They do like "nice-looking" girls, though. And they prefer it if you have long hair. It fits with the heavy metal image" (Chapkis, 211).
