Joan of Arc

             Joan of Arc is known to be many things: a saint, a peasant girl, a messenger, crazy, a captain of war, and a witch. At the age of 13, she began hearing the "voices." She rode off to war at the age of 17. Joan was convinced she was sent by God to save France. She was burned at the stake two years later at the age of 19. In the following, the events from her childhood to her death will be explained.
             Joan was born in 1412 on a farm. Her father was a farmer, and her mother was a homemaker. Joan was trained to spin wool and mind cows. Like most girls of her time, Joan was not to read and write. Growing up, Joan was a devoted catholic. At this time there was a war going on between the English and the French, and the English was winning. The English had captured the capital city of Paris, and dethroned the Prince of France. Joan's village was attacked, which triggered the "voices" believed to have been sent from God.
             After Joan began hearing the "voices" from God, she made a secret vow to stay a virgin. Now, at the age of 16, her fathered arranged a marriage for her. She did not except and defied her father, and never wed. Only being outside her village once, she rode off to war at age 16 convinced she could save France. She tried to face the king. She got a small group of followers. Then after, Joan cut her hair and put on men's clothing on. She went to Shenomb, and sent a message to castle for Charles the crowned prince. When she met with him, she revealed to him things only God could know. She soon won the confidence of Charles. He believed she had magical qualities.
             Joan wanted an army to defeat the English, and was made Captain of War. In March of 1429 she rode in armor. After Orleans being seven months under siege, the English fled.
