son invented the phonograph to help the blind in being educated. Now an educator could record his notes, books, or anything that had relevant importance for a person that could not see. Allowing a person with this disability to also receive an education.
The next great technological advancement education received was in 1910, the 35mm camera. Using the camera students could see pictures from all over the world. So instead of describing what the Statue of Liberty looks like on Ellis Island to a class in Kansas, now the class including the teacher could see with their own eyes what exactly it looks like. Bringing once again a visual perspective to education.
The next piece of equipment is still used in education today. The film projector was developed in the late 1800's early 1900's. Though it was not in the classroom back than, to my research it started to appear in the classroom early 1950's. When I hear the word film projector I can not help but think of a group of men signing up for the army and looking up at the camera with a big thumbs up. But seriously, the projector allowed students to view educational twenty-minute movies. I asked my father if he remembered any of these short films and he remembered two: a stop, drop, and roll campaign in case of a fire and also one on in case there is a bomb what to do. The projector educated students as well as entertained them. The BETA and VCR were innovations of the film projector. Both of these devices also have a place in education. Both allowed showing movies with sound clearer and a picture more visible. It was also easier to rewind or fast-forward a film. And finally giving a person the availability to record a film or show to present to a class.
