How the media portrays gnder

             Think about reality television shows, the company tapes all week long and then they piece together a story for the public to watch for an hour a week. There are one hundred and sixty hours in a week and the company only produces an hour. How are they portraying the show to the public? This year's The Bachelor took a small group of guys and a larger group of girls, the girls were to decide who their bachelor would be, then it would be up to the bachelor to eliminate the girls. I have watched this year's The Bachelor and have analyzed how the show portrays gender, marriage and sexuality.
             First, The Bachelor portrays stereotypical views of gender including gender and dating scripts. During the last episode Byron sent out four invitations to a date that he had completely planned. For example, with Mary he bought her red strappy heals and a red dress, she walked down from the top of the stairs while he was waiting for her at the bottom. It almost seems like a fairy tale (think about Disney's Beauty and the Beast). On another date he takes Jayne on a horse ride in the evening they ride on the same horse with him leading. Both dates show typically dating scripts, the guy invited the girl out and leads during the whole evening. As far as gender stereotypes all of the girls have long hair, petite bodies, are for the most part polite (there was one "cat fight"), they are compassionate and some are submissive to Byron. As far as Byron, he is in control, seems to be athletic and he also seems to be taller then the girls.
             Secondly, The Bachelor treats marriage like it's a game. For example, Cynthia's one on one date with Byron involved them going to the picnic area to talk and watch dolphins in the ocean. After the date she goes back to the room and tells the other girls about her date and says, "I'm in, the game is on." Some of the girls view one another as a threat and some ac
