             This is a case in which questions arose concerning the authorities and procedures of the District court of Columbia.
             It starts in 1959 with a young man named Morris A. Kent Jr. At age 14 he was arrested on housebreaking and attempted purse snatching. He received probation for these offenses. At age 16 he was arrested again on charges of rape housebreaking and robbery. The way he got caught was because they had his fingerprints from his previous offense and they matched the fingerprints at the crime scene. He was then taken to police headquarters and interrogated for approximately seven hours without the advice of counsel or his parents. His mother was not contacted until the next day.
             After about a week a judge found that after full investigation he granted the right to waive jurisdiction. In Sept. of 1961 he was indicted by the grand jury of the U.S district court for the District of Columbia. The counts were for rape, robbery and housebreaking. In Nov. of 1961 Kents counsel moved for the court to dismiss the indictment on grounds that the waiver was invalid, this motion was denied. In March of 1963 Kents counsel tried to claim insanity but after research they found that he was competent to stand trial. The jury in the end found him not guilty on the count of rape for reason of insanity but on the six counts of housebreaking and robbery found him guilty. He received 30 to 90 years in prison for the six counts but on the count of rape he had to go to a mental hospital until he was found insane and that time would be taken off his prison sentence.
             They took there case to the Court of appeals on the grounds that the waiver was defective.
