"The Bone Ruuuuules!" yells Chapman, after blasting out one of the great big six by six foot windows in the Ridgeway's summer home. After being kicked out of his house with his mother and perverted stepfather, Chapman who later changed his name to Bone, went to live with Russ and all of the bikers of the Adirondack Iron motorcycle gang. Amidst stealing already stolen TV's and VCR's from Adirondack Iron, breaking into the Ridgeway's summer home, smoking pot, and selling a stolen truck to some crack-heads living in a school bus, Bone is on his way to growing up as a homeless kid in Plattsburgh New York. He and his friend Russ, two years older and still only 16, are constantly in search of something new and better than what they've got. When dealing small time grass to mall kids isn't enough, Russ and Bone move on to swinging crank to almost everyone in upstate New York. The story ends with Bone and his new Jamaican friend I-man heading back to Jamaica where Bone meets his real father only to decide he doesn't want to live with him, leaving Bone and I-man relax and live the high life in Jamaica for the rest of their lives.
             All of these incidents are party of Russell Banks' novel Rule of the Bone , chillingly realistic. The rule of the Bone is somply Bone's rules for living his life with no regrets and always thinking about himself first. Since there aren't to many morals in this story, the plot relies on a lot of real life incidents that happen to many teenagers growing up with family, drug, drinking, and social problems. The book perfectly portrays what it is like growing up in this decade. Being pressured by the desire to be bad, break the rules, and go against the norm are all things that every teenager wrestles with everyday, and this book is just one boys story, that comes to life in this excellent book.
