Shortly after the French Revolution one of the greatest military minds to ever walk the planet, well... walked the planet.

This was a great thing for France, however, all good things must come to an end.
Napoleon was born in 1769 to Carlo Maria and Letizia Maria Ramolino di Buonaparte. He had seven brothers and sisters (Kerekes). His parents were in the upper echelons of Corsican society. He had been named after an Egyptian religious figure (Bloom). As a child he a was short tempered kid. He would wrestle and fight with his older brother and often win.
He started schooling at a very young age. While in school he retained his short temper, "...Napoleon would chase the hooligan and fight him."(Bloom) One of his most favorite subjects was arithmetic. He excelled at it, and he very much enjoyed doing it. He kept this passion for many years, therefore finding him a spot in the French Artillery.
"His love of mathematics caused him to become an artillery officer in the French army for the angles of trajectory, weight of shot, and amount of powder used when firing at various distances require a complete understanding of mathematics."(Bloom)
With him having such a fiery temper, the army was the perfect place for him. He was able to use his agression for a cause.
At the age of 16 he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant. Shortly thereafter, he became involved with the Corsican independence movement. The leader of this movement was Pasquale Paoli ("Napoleon I"). After several years though, Paoli lost his appreciation toward Napoleon, and he had to return to France.
