The Great Awakening had effected not only the social and political ways of life in America, but also the spiritual ways of life among the colonists. The Great Awakening effected these aspects of American life by getting people up and motivating them to be proactive in their communities. To some extent, the Great Awakening also cleared a path towards democracy.

Church attendance during the revival increased dramatically and many new churches had to be built in order to handle the overflow. Believers in the Christian faith before the Great Awakening found a new meaning and joy in their religion. Many Christians became very philanthropic and became involved in missions, a few became missionaries to the Native Americans.
             Second, the Great Awakening had a profound affect on American politically. The revival is one of the numerous factors contributing to the American War for Independence. The idea of unity as a nation and growing governmental freedoms were factors in going to war with England for freedom. "The spiritual principle that each person is equal in the sight of God, was popularized during the revival. Many colonists took this principle and applied it to the government." (www.kingsmen.org). The colonists began to believe that the law should treat each person equally. This concept played a huge role in the formation Declaration of Independence.
