            The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle
            
             "The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle" written by Avi is about a girl (Charlotte Doyle) who was born in America. When she was 6 years old she had to move to England because of her fathers job as a cotton manufacture and a agent for American business. In 1832 her father was summoned back to America but, Charlotte had to finish school in England while her family want to their new home in Providence, Rhode Island.
             Her father had arranged for her to go to the docks in Liverpool, England, and go aboard the "Seahawk" with two other families.
             When she arrived in Liverpool she was met by a man named Mr. Grummage (who works for her father.) As they reached the boat they found out that the two families who were supposed to accompany her couldn't go because one family had an ill daughter and the other couldn't make it in time for the ships departure.
             When Charlotte went aboard the "Seahawk" she had tea with the cook Zachariah who gave her a dirk and told her the story of a shipmate Cranick who didn't tie a knot to the likes of Captain Jaggery, who then cut off his arm. So, the dirk was for protection.
             When Charlotte met the Captain she showed him the dirk and told him that Mr. Grummage gave it to her. He told her to keep it. When she went to go get her trunk which contained her clothing someone blew out the candle, but she didn't know who.
             Zachariah made Charlotte a pair of trousers and a blouse. When Charlotte went to get a pin for Ewing (a crew member) she found a pistol in his trunk, she also found a round robin which meant that they were going to rebel against the captain. Charlotte then realized that the person who blew out the candle must have been a stowaway. Panic struck with fear Charlotte ran to tell Jaggery, about everything.
