Macbeth

             Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, here I present to you the man responsible for putting Scotland through such turmoil. Although the hands of Lady Macbeth and Macbeth are both bloody, it is a matter of the bloodier of the two. Due to the evidence that I am about to present to the jury and judge it will be clear who deserves to hang for these atrocities. The crimson hands that are guilty of this murder belong to none other than Macbeth.
             May it please the court that I begin presenting my evidence to the jury. The murder of Duncan was the beginning of the bloodshed. "I have done the deed"(II,ii,1) is what Macbeth said to his wife after Duncan was brutally stabbed to death. If Macbeth and his wife are equally guilty, then why didn't they both kill Duncan? Macbeth actually carried out the deed; his hands were obviously the bloodier.
             In the murder of Banquo, Macbeth hired the murderers. Macbeth said, "It is concluded. Banquo, thy soul's flight, if it find Heaven, must it find it out tonight."(III,ii,41-142) That quote alone expresses Macbeth's yearning for Banquo's death. Macbeth does not even want his wife to know what is to be done to Banquo for her own safety. "Be innocent of the knowledge, dearest chick..."(III,iii,45) For he wanted to take responsibility if the matter arose.
             Macbeth is much more concerned about his place as king being maintained. Throughout his reign as king, and before it, he has ensured his legacy by killing. Lady Macbeth did not have such an urge as Macbeth and that explains why Macbeth must return to the Weird Sisters for assurance of his reign. He ordered them to let their master answer his question when he said, "Call 'em; let me see 'em."(IV,I,67) He wants to be reassured that he will preserve his power.
