knees. The leggings of moose, caribou, or seal hide were tied at the hip to a leather girdle. The girdle also supported a loincloth of very soft skin. The women usually wore a very light robe during the summer and the same robe as men during the winter. Both sexes often wore a pair of sleeves of fur and leather. Children wore a smaller version of the adult costume while babies were wrapped in the softest skins of fox, swan or goose. The Micmac took a lot of pride into being different so they set apart themselves as their clothing was decorated with geometric patterns and designs of birds, beasts and humans.
             "The Micmacs also took on the opportunity to celebrate anything and everything. Large feasts were held to celebrate marriages, funerals, beginning of the hunting season, peace, war, etc." Marriage was a solemn ceremony preceded by a year or more of betrothal, when the youth resided with the parents of his future bride and they gave them the products of his hunting.
