The story of Odysseus is the ultimate family story, a tale of a man trying to return home from a long bloody war to his wife and child. Because of his long journey to Ithaca people live in Ithaca belive that he is no more alive. To get kingship of Ithaca marriage with , Penelope (wife of Odysseus) is the only way. Many suitors invade the palace of Odysseus and they pillage the assets of him. Penelope does not give up waiting for her husband and she detains the suitors by deceiving. After Odyseus returned his home this sad story is ended with death of the suitors. There is another story of woman in "Odyssey" , the story of Clytmenestra (the wife of Agamemnon). Her husband, like Odysseus, goes to Trojan war but she does not wait for Agamemnon and when Agamemnon returns to home she and her lover kill him. I can say that Altough Penelope deceive the suitors, she is the dream character for a woman, for a wife and for a mother especially when she confront with Clytmenestra this idea becomes more meaningful.

Both her freedom and power are manifest in her cunning and deliberate ways. I argue that this is the manifestation of a femininity characteristic to her, and to the tradition of misogyny. When she tricks her suitors by unraveling Laertes' shroud after each day at her loom, when she tests Odysseus with questions about their bed, when she announces the contest of the bow, when she refuses to recognize Telemachus' impending adulthood, s
