A very common fairy tale that we have grown up hearing is the story of Cinderella, a poor girl whose dreams of marrying a prince and living happily ever after, finally come true after many years of wishing upon a star. While she was young, she had an extremely close relationship with her father; her mother passed on long before Cinderella could remember. The first mother that Cinderella first encounters in her life is her stepmother, whom her father had remarried after Cinderella got a bit older.
             After examining the story closely, one could probably say that Cinderella suffered from the Electra complex. The Electra complex (opposite of the Oedipus complex) is where a daughter desires her own father so much, that she would cast off or maybe evil kill her mother for fear of competition. In Cinderella, even though she might be too naive to notice, Cinderella exhibits various behavior that can be accredited to her Electra complex.
             Cinderella constant need of cleaning the house, washing the dishes, and feeding the chickens is her subconscious ness trying to say to all eligible bachelors, but because of her complex, her father, that she would make a fantastic housewife and great housekeeper. Another act is Cinderella's uncanny way of suddenly popping into a song no matter what she is doing (as seen in the Disney version of her story). It is obvious that Cinderella has the musical ability and talent to make up a song about anything and in any tune, and make it beautiful. For example, while many of us get down and dirty when we scrub the floors, this is not the case with Cinderella. Her clothing falls perfectly and just so, and her voice is rich and beautiful singing the song about scrubbing. This is once again, her subconscious kicking in.
