In the drama Antigone the main conflict was that of Anitgone and Creon. Antigone's brothers were fighting in the war. Eteocles was fighting for the Thebes, while Polynices was for the other side. While in battle they fought and killed each other. Ismene, Antigone sister, is talking with Antigone about the burial of their brothers. Creon announced that "Eteocles has been given full military honors" (28-29). "Polynices, who died miserably, a city-wide proclamation, for bids anyone to bury him, even mourn him" (32-34). Antigone wants Ismene to help her bury Polynices, even though it is against the law. She knows this is wrong but thinks both brothers deserve the same. Ismene thinks about the death of their parents, and now the brothers. She says "now look at the two of us, left so alone....think what a death we'll die, the worst of all if we violate the laws and override the fixed decree of the throne" (70-73). Antigone has made up her mind that she is going to bury him, even though she is dishonoring the law. Ismene told her she was afraid for her, Antigone told her not to be afraid for she has to do this.
             Creon is talking to his guardsmen and leaders telling them of Eteocles and Polynices deaths, and tells them that he has forbid anyone to bury Polynices. "These are my principles. Never at my hands will the traitor be honored about the patriot. But whoever proves his loyalty to the state: I'll prize that man in death as well as life" (233-235). Just then a Sentry came running in to tell of the news. "The body someone's just buried it m then run off...sprinkled some dry dust on the flesh, given it proper rites" (275-279). Not to long later the Sentry comes back with Antigone, Creon asks why she is there. He says she is the prisoner, for she is the one that buried the body. Creon asks her if she knew of the decree that forbid the burying
