New York City is known not only for its finances but also for the number of different cultures that exist. The literature I have reviewed provides me with a lot of information that I can perfectly used to support my paper. The main point in all these articles is the diversity process that we all have to deal with at work every single day, which involves the different cultures and languages that can exist in a workplace. These articles which are: cultural interest promotes diversity, diversity at work, emphasis on 'culture' in psychology fuels stereotypes, and respecting our differences; give us facts about how people used to deal with all the problems that developing diversity brings at work.
Cultural Interest Promotes Diversity
Diversity is considered as one of the best ways to share relationship between different cultures or languages. As Kengo stated, interaction is part of the diversity development, and in order to find the best shape of diversity in a community, both groups; the majority and minority have to think about the issues of each other. Also, "Culture mix" is a very important part of that process; however, in our society the ideal community should be able to know the view points of both groups. Most of the time, people used to accept newcomers with different cultures in many different ways. For example, Carrol one of the girls interviewed said, "They are people moving to a new area just as the same as I am. So they have just as much right to be there as I do". The understanding of a different culture or language can make a difference to help newcomers get involved in the community. Sometimes, language or different culture prevents people from accepting newcomers the way they should, and that is one of the reasons of why language and cultural barriers appear in our society.
