             Personal banking officers (loan officers) examine, evaluate and process credit and loan applications. The titles "personal banking officer" and "personal banking representative" are new and reflect recent changes in many financial institutions. Many of these workers now perform other client services, such as investment and savings counselling or selling investment funds. They are employed by banks, trust companies, credit unions and similar financial institutions.
             Business diploma programs are available at all B.C. public colleges and university colleges. These programs prepare graduates for entry-level positions in both public and private enterprises. Admission requirements generally include grade 12, with a strong background in mathematics and English.
             Undergraduate programs in business administration and commerce are available at most public universities in B.C. Various concentrations or options are available, including accounting, finance, international business, marketing, policy analysis and human resource management. As well, the British Columbia Institute of Technology, Open University and most university colleges offer bachelor's degrees in business administration. Admission to undergraduate programs requires graduation from secondary school, with a strong background in mathematics, business and English.

             Generally, people work their way up to these positions from within an institution, and it is only when eligible candidates are not available from within that applications are accepted from outside.
