A Comparison of Women's Magazi

             They are the bibles of teenage girls and housewives across our nation. In every issue, women's magazines constantly have the same three topics addressed: men, fashion, and beauty. However, these three subjects are not the only things women care to read about. With the vast number of cultures and ethnicities in the United States, shouldn't there be magazines that address issues that define and interest those women? Latina.com and Naree.com are two online magazines that do just that.
             Latina.com is a magazine that is dedicated to presenting the interests of and to women of Hispanic origin who live in the United States, and is offered free online, or can be subscribed in hardcopy form for aprroximatley $1.25 per issue. There is also a space to subscribe to a free monthly Latina newsletter. Though Latina.com offers a healthy dose of articles concerning the aforementioned three topics of men, fashion, and beauty, it also has feature stories and articles about bilingual and bicultural life for Latinas in the US. One of these articles, "Becoming Latina" is a look at how teenage girls of Hispanic origin need to express their "Latina-ness". The articles are also bilingual, with much of the text in English, but Spanish words thrown into the mix every now and then. Furthermore, Latina.com offers a Message Board, where readers can express their opinions and ask questions of other readers. The message board had as many as twenty new post each day. This serves as an extension of what readers gain from the magazine itself. Not only are Latina women gaining knowledge through the writers of the magazine, but through each other as well. Lastly, There is a daily instant poll, with questions usually pertaining to love and sex, that the reader may answer and instantly see how she compared with others in her answer.
