Does chivalry have a place in the modern world?
             The ideals of chivalry and the Arthurian legend still exist and are interwoven into life as we know it today. Not only do we have a Broadway musical entitled Camelot but the morals and beliefs of chivalry still thrive in the present day world.
             Chivalry defined the relationships between women and knights in the feudal court. The men strove to attain their lady's affections by waging war in their name, or by romancing them. Knights were to devote themselves entirely to one woman. This is still true today. When a man chooses a future wife, he pledges to love her for all of eternity. Such a romantic thought, although hardly attained, it is still prevalent in today's society.
             In common day literature, chivalry and the idea of Camelot still captivates a large audience. The figures of knights and knighthood have become largely romanticized. Knights represent the highest of Christian ideals and civility. Sir Walter Scott incorporated this romanticism in his works like Ivanhoe and Lord Byron. This romanticism will always gain a large audience. People are fascinated with romance.
             Romanticism itself is desired. Everyone wants to be adored and to adore someone. It is a basic human function. The thought of loving two people at once, as in Morte D'Arthur, is even more fascinating. It attracts people like a very strong magnet. It helps their imagination and lets them wish for things that are almost impossible to attain. Nevertheless, people still buy romance novels and schools still study works similar to Morte D'Arthur. Examining works such as this are helpful in determining what a person believes.
